How are tags resolved to physical addresses by LINOPC ?

A prerequisite for tags and OPC browsing is the presence of a project database in the root of the project. A project can be configured such that tags appear but then there is no ability to communicate with those tags and the fields of the tag via LINOPC.

On a single PC project the easiest way to define the communication port is to use the LIN Network tab on the network folder's property page. By configuring the online port and rebuilding the project LINOPC will be able to use that port name to address the instrument. Note that LINOPC may well need to be restarted to pick up the changes. Also note that no alarms will be provided into Operations Viewer if only this configuration is carried out, see next paragraph for the solution.

On a multiple PC project then the map of ports to instruments needs to be defined for multiple PCs. Using Project Organiser the server computers can have ports added to them and then instruments can be dragged and dropped below the ports to define the communication path. If a build is carried out when an instrument is not assigned to a port then it will be automatically added to an appropriate port. In the absence of the Project Organiser software then ESConfig (aka "Eurotherm Suite Configurator", aka "Project Configuration") can be used to setup the server computers and the ports and the ServerComputerPortToNodes mapping data.
