Created: February 2006
Problem/Issue
After installing ActiveFactory v9.x, when you open Microsoft Word the following dialog boxes will appear when you click OK to
acknowledge the first message. The messages are generated when the macro security level is set to Medium or higher.
Figure 1: Macros With Expired or Revoked Signature Message
Figure 2: Disabled Macros Message
The messages are generated because an internal VeriSign certificate expired on Feb 18th, 2006. Wonderware has renewed the
certificate, but ActiveFactory Report does not recognize the new VeriSign timestamp. Since the timestamp cannot be validated,
MS Word must validate based on the "trusted publisher" and not the certificate. MS Word checks the "trusted publisher" only
from the location that is mapped in the Tools/Options/File Locations/File type/Startup location.
Wonderware will address this problem in a future patch.
It is necessary to map the Startup path to the VeriSign-enabled ActiveFactory Report template (HistClient.dot).
Application Versions
This information applies to:
l ActiveFactory Report v. 9.0 and later.
l Microsoft® Word 2002 (Office 11) and later.
Solution/Corrective Action
To map the correct Startup location:
1. Search all locations for HistClient.dot, and note its location.
In most ActiveFactory installations, the file HistClient.dot will be located under \Program Files
\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP\ or
\Program Files\Common Files\ArchestrA.
2. Open Word and select Tools/Options from the main menu.
The Options dialog box appears.
3. Select the File Locations tab.
4. Select Startup from the File type field (Figure 3 below):
Figure 3: Options/Startup
5. Click Modify and change the path to the actual location of the HistClient.dot file (noted in step 1). For
example: \Program Files\MicrosoftOffice\OFFICE11\STARTUP.
Figure 4: Modify STARTUP Location
6. Restart Word. Word should start without messages.
Make sure only one copy of the file exists by using the search tool in Windows Explorer.
